Health & Safety Coordinator · Collingwood, Ontario

We are seeking a Health & Safety Coordinator to report to the Director of Quality & HSE.

The successful candidate will play a key role in implementing and maintaining health and safety protocols in accordance with provincial regulations and company policies. This individual will work closely with management and employees to promote a culture of safety and ensure compliance with all relevant legislation. The Health & Safety Coordinator will perform day-to-day activities to maintain and improve employee safety by reviewing activities such as manufacturing processes and the operation of equipment. They will also monitor the proper use of PPE and make recommendations for new or better methods of employee protection. Assist with corrective actions regarding safety concerns and maintain the JHSC, including plant tours and meetings.

This role is based out of our Collingwood location at 20 Stewart Road.

Start Date: Immediate

Hours of Work: This is a full-time position working 9:00 AM to 5:00 PM, Monday to Friday

Responsibilities for this position include:

  • Joint Health & Safety Committee (“JHSC”) maintenance
  • First Aid training scheduling and maintaining
  • Monthly facility, first aid, and fire extinguisher logs for all locations
  • Responsible for communicating with the Director of Quality & HSE regarding health & safety concerns
  • Investigating accidents, incidents, and near misses to determine root causes and implement corrective actions to prevent recurrence
  • Responding to emergencies, facilitating incident/accident investigations, and completing all required paperwork
  • OH&S board maintenance at all locations
  • Monitoring air quality to ensure engineering controls are functioning
  • Health & Safety binder creation and maintenance
  • Yearly Health & Safety policy and procedure updates
  • Fire system and plans, as well as conducting annual fire drills
  • Regular maintenance of Safety Data Sheets (“SDS”) for all chemicals in all buildings
  • Identifying Health and Safety training needs, developing training programs and conducting training
  • Staying informed about changes to health and safety legislation and proactively communicating updates to relevant stakeholders
  • Other miscellaneous duties as required

The ideal candidate for this position will possess the following:

  • University Degree, College Diploma, or Certifications in Occupational Health & Safety or equivalent experience
  • Minimum of 2 years of experience in a comparable health and safety role, preferably in a manufacturing or industrial environment
  • Certified member of JHSC will be considered an asset
  • Certified Health and Safety Professional (CHSP) designation or equivalent would be a tremendous asset
  • Strong knowledge of relevant health and safety legislation, including the Occupational Health and Safety Act (OHSA) and Workplace Hazardous Materials Information System (WHMIS)
  • Proficiency with MS Office (Outlook, Word, Excel, PowerPoint & Teams)
  • Excellent analytical skills with a keen attention to detail
  • Excellent communication (written & verbal) and interpersonal skills, with the ability to effectively engage with employees at all levels of the organization
  • Ability to prioritize tasks and meet deadlines in a fast-paced environment
  • Ability to work independently and collaboratively within a team
  • Excellent critical thinking & problem-solving skills
  • Able to act with integrity, professionalism, and confidentiality
  • Strong work ethic, positive attitude, diligence & commitment
  • Candidates must have a valid Social Insurance Number at the start of employment and be legally entitled to work in Canada under relevant provincial or territorial legislation and regulations.
