Sensor Technology Ltd. to Open 73,000-Sq. Ft. Manufacturing Facility in Collingwood by Summer 2026
New 180 Mountain Road site expands SensorTech’s Collingwood footprint to more than 94,000 square feet, scaling domestic production of piezoelectric ceramics and underwater acoustic sensing systems.
COLLINGWOOD, Ontario — Sensor Technology Ltd. (SensorTech), a Canadian manufacturer of piezoelectric ceramics and underwater acoustic sensing systems, today announced a new 73,000- square-foot production facility at 180 Mountain Road in Collingwood. The site is expected to be fully operational by summer 2026.
This will increase SensorTech’s manufacturing footprint in Collingwood from approximately 21,000 square feet to more than 94,000 square feet. Ceramic manufacturing will expand at the company’s 20 Stewart Road site, while sensor assembly and thin-line towed array production will transition to the new 180 Mountain Road facility.
The new facility is a key milestone within SensorTech’s Sensor Technology Advanced Manufacturing Expansion Program (STAMP), a multi-year modernization initiative focused on growth, process improvement, and workforce development. STAMP includes new production equipment, facility fit-out, and upgraded enterprise systems to strengthen quality, traceability, and delivery performance for defence and marine industrial customers.
“This facility gives us the space to scale sensor assembly and thin-line towed array manufacturing in Canada, while expanding ceramic capacity at our Stewart Road site,” said Niru Somayajula, Chief Executive Officer of Sensor Technology Ltd.. “With 180 Mountain Road coming online in summer 2026, we will be positioned to support higher volumes and faster delivery for allied defence and marine industrial programs.”
This modernization project is funded in part by the Government of Canada, through the Federal Economic Development Agency for Southern Ontario (FedDev Ontario), with a repayable contribution of up to $2,500,000.
“SensorTech’s new facility in Collingwood represents an impressive milestone, highlighting the resilience of businesses in Southern Ontario,” said the Honourable Evan Solomon, Minister of Artificial Intelligence and Digital Innovation and Minister responsible for the Federal Economic Development Agency for Southern Ontario. “It’s fantastic to see a company that has received FedDev Ontario’s support continue to grow, fueling economic development and opening up fresh opportunities across the region.”
Scaling domestic capability for underwater acoustics
SensorTech designs and manufactures compact, high-performance acoustic sensors and marine sensing systems used in defence, oceanographic, and industrial applications. The company’s vertically integrated manufacturing model spans ceramic powder processing, piezoelectric ceramic production, and the assembly and test of hydrophones, transducers, and integrated sensing systems. This end-to-end capability supports supply chain resilience, quality control, and rapid engineering iteration in Canada.
Local investment and workforce growth
SensorTech expects the expansion to support workforce growth across manufacturing, engineering, and operations roles as the new facility is commissioned. The company will share additional details on hiring, commissioning milestones, and customer delivery readiness as the 180 Mountain Road site progresses through fit-out and equipment installation.
