Sensor Technology Ltd. is a client-driven manufacturer of piezoelectric ceramic solutions as well as custom acoustic transducers, hydrophones, and systems, including COMPASS (Compact Passive Acoustic Sensing System). Throughout our 40-year history, Sensor Technology Ltd. has specialized in providing clients with innovative, customized solutions with repeatable results, which has propelled Sensor Technology into becoming a global leader in piezoelectric-based acoustic tools and systems.
When Blue Mountain Pottery, a commercial pottery company employing 500+ people, wanted to diversify its offerings, BM HiTech was created in 1983. Founders Eswar & Shashi Prasad immigrated from India in the late 1970s with degrees in Physics (Piezoelectric Ceramics) and Economics. They came to Collingwood as part of Blue Mountain Pottery’s diversification of piezoelectric high-tech ceramic materials (piezoelectricity). Subsequently, they incorporated Sensor Technology and BM HiTech as a wholly owned subsidiary in 1983. Since the beginning, Sensor Technology has been committed to designing and manufacturing the highest quality acoustic products and remains a proudly run Canadian company. Sensor Technology’s diverse and customizable products allow the company to be involved in multiple markets, including defence, oceanology, hydrography, energy, and aquaculture.
Sensor Technology’s growing success is the company’s ability to control the manufacturing process at all parts of the value chain, allowing Sensor Technology to offer leading-edge customizable products. Starting from the raw materials (which four years’ worth is kept in house), PZT powder is mixed and formed into piezoelectric ceramics. These ceramics can then be assembled in hydrophones, transducers, and acoustic systems.
