Senior Acoustics Physicist/Engineer · Dartmouth, Nova Scotia

We seek a Senior Acoustics Physicist/Engineer to report to the Director of Systems.

This role is based out of 25 Parker Street, Dartmouth, Nova Scotia, B2Y 4T5.

The Senior Acoustics Physicist/Engineer will play a crucial role in designing, developing, and implementing acoustic solutions for various projects. This individual will work closely with cross-functional teams to ensure that acoustics requirements are integrated seamlessly into product designs and engineering processes. The ideal candidate should have extensive experience in acoustics engineering, excellent problem-solving skills, and a passion for innovation.

 

Start Date: Immediate

Hours of Work: This is a full-time position working 8:30 AM to 4:30 PM, Monday to Friday

Responsibilities for this position include:

  • Leading the development and implementation of acoustic solutions
  • Conducting comprehensive acoustic simulations, measurements, and analyses to optimize product performance and meet acoustics requirements
  • Collaborating with design, engineering, and manufacturing teams to integrate acoustics considerations into product development processes from concept to production
  • Designing and prototyping acoustic components and systems
  • Evaluating and selecting appropriate materials, technologies, and techniques to achieve desired acoustic performance targets
  • Defining and executing test plans to validate acoustic designs and troubleshoot any issues that arise during development
  • Staying current with industry trends, emerging technologies, and best practices in acoustics engineering
  • Mentoring junior engineers and providing technical guidance on acoustic design principles, methodologies, and tools
  • Communicating project status, findings, and recommendations effectively to stakeholders through reports, presentations, and technical documentation
  • Ensuring compliance with relevant regulations, standards, and quality requirements related to acoustics and sound emissions

The ideal candidate for this position will possess the following:

  • A bachelor’s degree in acoustic engineering, mechanical engineering, electrical engineering, physics, applied physics, or a related field. A Master’s degree or Ph.D. is highly desirable
  • Minimum of 5 years of professional experience working with underwater acoustics is highly desirable
  • Proficient in acoustics modelling, simulation, beamforming, sensor design, and/or system implementation and testing
  • Proficient in acoustics physics, specializing in underwater environments and Multiphysics modelling. Demonstrated ability to analyze and model complex physical phenomena comprehensively
  • A proven track record of successful product development projects
  • Proficiency in computing environments such as Python, Mathematica, MATLAB, or equivalent is essential
  • Experience with simulation and computation software is preferred
  • Strong understanding of acoustic principles, wave propagation, and signal processing
  • Experience with acoustic measurement equipment and techniques, such as hydrophones, laser vibrometry, and anechoic chambers
  • Experience performing laboratory experiments and evaluating fieldable prototypes
  • Proficiency in acoustic or Multiphysics simulation tools (COMSOL, SIMULIA, MAVART, or similar)
  • Strong skills in Python, MATLAB or Mathematica for simulation, automation, and data analysis
  • Strong hands-on skills needed for the test, measurement, and experimental validation of proposed designs
  • Proficiency in CAD software for designing acoustic components and systems (e.g., SolidWorks, AutoCAD)
  • Experienced in Microsoft Office (Word, Excel, PowerPoint, Outlook, and Teams)
  • Excellent analytical and problem-solving skills, with the ability to troubleshoot complex acoustic issues and propose practical solutions
  • Strong communication and interpersonal skills, with the ability to collaborate effectively with cross-functional teams and to communicate effectively with non-technical audiences
  • The ability to support business development initiatives, write proposals, white papers, and technical documents
  • Proven leadership abilities, including the ability to mentor junior engineers and lead technical projects
  • Candidates must have a valid Social Insurance Number at the start of employment and be legally entitled to work in Canada under relevant provincial or territorial legislation and regulations
